Everyone is hating on the Minecraft Movie, which is understandable, but there's something that I still hope they really do because it's right under everyone's noses.
It's the simple fact that they have the PERFECT chance to introduce The Order of the Stone into the movie. There are so many things that could put it perfectly into place.
First, I must explain what the Order of the Stone is and what it means to Minecraft.
When Notch created the game, he cycled through many potential names for this game.
The first consideration was “Cave Game” and then it became “Minecraft: Order of the Stone” before it was shortened to just be “Minecraft.
The Order of the Stone became significant in Minecraft: Story Mode as one of the main plot devices. They made the Order of the Stone into a group of heroes:
Gabriel: The Warrior
Ellegaard: The Redstone Engineer
Magnus: The Rogue
Soren: The Architect
Then, for those who’ve seen the Minecraft Movie trailers, we know that we’re following 4 unlikely heroes. When looking through the descriptions of these trailers [2][3], I took note of the synopsis of the movie.
The last sentence states that the main characters of the movie will be challenged to “reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative”
A quality similar to how the Order of the Stone is treated where they all have unique creative abilities.
The Minecraft YouTube channel posted a video with ‘Exclusive Insights’ into the movie before they released the trailer the day after. [4] In this video we get the gist of the main characters (aside from Steve) that we’ll be seeing in the movie. These characters are:
Garret “The Garbage Man” Garrison
Henry
Natalie
Dawn
Throughout the ‘Exclusive Insight’ video and the trailers, we can see how these characters will play a role as a team in the Minecraft movie.
Garret is seen as the carefree type of player. He acts tough, better than others, and seems to not care much about the rules of the game. We see him in the trailers being passive aggressive [2] and ignoring things he should be listening to like when Steve tells him about the Ender Pearl [3]. One of his most notable scenes is carelessly dumping things onto the crafting table and creating two buckets and a chain. [2]
If this team is supposed to be the Order of the Stone, then I would put Garret up with Magnus: The Rogue.
Henry is said to be a modder [4] and makes up his own crafts in the Minecraft world. We see him with a blunderbuss in one of the trailers [3] and dumping random stuff from his pockets onto the crafting table in the ‘Exclusive insights’ video [4]. We don’t have much on Henry but he seems to be the leader type and engineer type. Until we see more, I’d pair Henry with Ellegaard: The Redstone Engineer.
This leaves much to be seen from Natalie and Dawn. One of them would have to be some sort of architect who’s good at building, and the other would have to be the Warrior, who’s good at fighting. It certainly isn’t Garret with his reaction to an army of zombies and spider-jockeys… [3].
I suppose we’ll just have to wait until more comes out or until we see the movie itself.
BUT WAIT!!
What about the stone??? The Order is for a stone… what’s the Stone???
THERE IS A STONE!!! IT’S THE BLUE CUBE TESSERACT THINGIE!!! [2][3][4]
Which fuels so much of my theory! There is an order, and… there is a Stone!
Would this movie really want to reference Minecraft: Story Mode?
Yes! This movie is said to be a sort of combination of Minecraft (The Base Game) with the other games such as Legends and Dungeons. This leaves us to assume they didn’t forget about Story Mode.
So final verdict: We might be seeing the formation of The Order of the Stone in this movie…
And what if we don’t? Then it’ll be a HEAVILY missed chance with a whole blogpost right here to prove it.
And at least in my heart, they will always be The Order of the Stone.
It just makes sense.
