This blogpost was originally going to be a draft for sending my problem into help forums or Reddit to see if anyone else was able to fix my copy of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. And I was going to post it anyway on my blog in order to just tell a funny current life story and update it to the internal M-T in my brain who's interested.
And now all this is irrelevant but I'm going to post it anyway just so all this writing and brain power doesn't go to waste...
So what happened? I bought Indiana Jones and the Great Circle... and it didn't work...
Here was the problem with the game:
When I first booted up the game, the screen would appear really, really small in the top left corner of the game. I tried to fix this but now the remaining issue is that the game boots up with a black screen and freezes my PC.
Could it be a compatibility issue?
I don't think so:
Here are the game's system requirements:
Here are my PC specs:
OS: Windows 11 pro (Shouldn't be an issue should it? Or does it HAVE to be Windows 10?)
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7600 6-core Processor
Memory: 32 GB RAM
Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 799 XT
MY COMPUTER IS ABLE TO RUN THIS THING UNLESS THE DIFFERENCE IN OS IS ACTUALLY AN ISSUE...
Here's what I've tried to fix this thing:
I changed the resolution settings:
I've tried to change the default window mode settings but nothing really changed other than the screen not being super small anymore.
I unplugged my second monitor:
Sometimes a PC's second monitor can mess things up. The game still does what it does when my second monitor is unplugged.
I messed with the compatibility settings:
Compatibility settings don't change anything.
I checked my drivers:
All my drivers are up to date.
I reinstalled the game:
I've reinstalled the game 3 times...
I made sure the right helping programs were installed:
Every program that I would need is installed. I even Installed AMD Adrenalin Edition which I had on my previous PC and it helped run other games a LOT better but not Indy.
I verified the game's file integrity:
I've done this probably 10 times by now within the 3 times I've reinstalled the game.
On updating my PC:
I have not updated my PC yet in fear that a network interruption would corrupt my PC again... (It's already happened twice...)
I WAS SO READY TO SEND ALL THIS OUT TO A REDDIT OR FORUM...
AND NOW IT WORKS!?!?!?!?!?
YES! NOW IT WORKS!!!! AFTER THE 3RD REINSTALL!!
What's the verdict?
The only thing that's majorly changed since the last time I tried messing with the game and now was that we unplugged our Oculus Rift S from the computer due to Meta messing up our headset with some update. For some reason, the VR headset was messing with the game's ability to run... but I guess it would make sense. The game isn't VR compatible and our VR headset was plugged into the graphics card... so there we go I guess.
Look out for a review on this game because I already played through the first hour or so and it's amazing! I have a LOT to say about it...but my first impressions are great!
